squidpiddge: (Unliving Dead Girl)

Hey everyone, say hello to Molly. She's kind of a zombie, but not the kind that eats brains.

So, Molly comes from Malifaux, a setting of a variety of games (a tabletop miniature skirmish game of the same name, a tabletop RPG called 'Through the Breach', and a soon-to-be-released large scale miniature game called 'The Other Side'), which can be sort-of accurately summed up as a steampunk Victorian horror western fantasy.

Yes, all those genres at once. Magic, monsters, gunslingers, railroad barons, steam powered robots, the whole kit and kaboodle. It's an interesting mish-mash of 'stuff that'll look cool' but the overarching story of the setting has been getting weird and more interesting over time.

Anyhow, the quick thing is - there's a magical breach on Earth that leads to a place called Malifaux, a land full of magic and monsters and a magical resource called soulstones (that are legitimately crystals containing the magical power of... human souls). This magical place has a mysterious history and mythology, including 13 'Tyrants', creatures of unimaginable power that were killed/trapped in the ancient past but are trying to rise again.

I bring this up only because Molly here is intrinsically tied to one of them.

Molly Squidpiddge was an up-and-coming reporter in Malifaux, who had most famously taken a photograph of 'The Gorgon's Tear', a particularly sizable and unique soulstone. The camera flash through the facets of the stone had exposed a shadowy image of a gorgeous woman with snakes for hair on the wall. This led to her getting some unwanted attention from Seamus, a necromancer who can best be described as 'the worst possible outcome of crossing The Mad Hatter with Jack the Ripper'. The first time Molly encountered Seamus, he brutally murdered her. The second time, he crashed her funeral and resurrected her.

Now, this sort of resurrection normally means you're a mindless zombie, basically a puppet to the whims of the nefarious necromancer who raised you (and they come in lots of nefarious flavors, too). Molly, however, was special. Her first resurrection was somewhat special, as Seamus put some extra pizazz into it so that she'd remained preserved even if she was 'killed' again.

Then, after getting killed a second time, Molly's second resurrection came by way of The Gorgon's Tear, which was very special indeed. She had more bits of her personality, though she was still under the control of Seamus. Slowly but surely, however, she regained herself, and struck out on her own.

So yeah. Molly's a zombie. A sentient, friendly one, who doesn't so much practice dark magic but is intrinsically linked with it because she's a pawn of an ancient force of potential evil. Undead follow her around like lost puppies, because she exudes an aura that helps them feel more like their own selves. She basically is a walking, talking home for wayward zombies - and while she doesn't quite like being a savior figure, she has all the compassion for these poor people who don't really want to be monsters or instruments of evil.

But I'm digressing.

Molly is coming to Fandom not as part of some necromantic mechaninations, but as a journalist. You see, she likes disguising herself and working for the newspaper in Malifaux, and she'll be coming as part of an 'investigative report' on what exactly is through a new magical breach in Malifaux (which happens to lead right to Fandom).

So, Molly is a kind, inquisitive type that gets violently angry when it comes to people abusing others and treating them as things and property and not as, well, people. Kind of comes from being the puppet of a heinous necromancer for far too long. Her best friends are a reanimated decapitated head (Whom she has lost track of), a hulking giant made of multiple dead bodies (and a tentacle) stapled together, and a Japanese woman who can summon spirits and likes to murder people with a giant pair of scissors. Sadly none of these will be with her in Fandom, so she'll be looking to make new friends.

As noted elsewhere - she's undead. She decomposed just a little bit before she was preserved by magic, so her eyes are cloudy, she smells a bit of death (but nothing so bad she can't cover it up with perfume), and her skin is now deathly pale... which admittedly isn't far off from what it was in life. She's got black hair, pulled into ridiculously poofy pigtails.

She'll be wearing dark glasses to hide her eyes, at least to start, in Fandom. And... I think that's the important bits?

Hi it's a lot of info, I'm sure I missed stuff, hit me up with questions if you got 'em!

I apologize in advance for this one's less-than-stellar reaction when they actually meet!

Kathy spent about a year, wandering around LA as a zombie! Even now she's a vegetarian because the act of eating meat makes her nauseous.
